Dear Forest

Dear forest,

I never know that I had been taking advantage of you. I never know until I was taught about PENCEMARAN (pollution) in primary school. I only knew what that suppose to mean and what kind of impacts it should have so we can score well in our essay writing. I never tried to find out more about you and I am very sorry.

Please excuse those who have not found who you really are for I was once one of them. The nearest forest is the Botanical Garden and there I was, thinking that there is nothing wrong with you while people had been removing parts of you away so we can live.

I learnt that I should be living with you instead of living by casting you out.

I was happier when we have not moved out from the old residence. I was surrounded by big trees and river. I know then I will be very happy with you...

It's your day soon and this is the least I can do for you. Allow me to get nearer to you again.

Love,
Catherine

Replying Y*O*U

I am reading between the lines. I know I am not good in it for I always tell you to your face.

I am providing you a venue which you can employ and house your fear and torture.

I am watching you.

I am listening to your moves. They tell tales.

I am here with you.

Update 5th March 2010

Dear Lord,

I sincerely pray to you for the ERB Review Board to grant me the chance to conduct my research. I promise to :-

1. Take good care of my health.
2. Reconcile with the persons in this Lent.
3. Go for mass every week.
4. Devote my one hour to the holy hour.

........................................................................

I had one autistic moment:-

SP : Cat, do you have tissue paper?
Me : Yeah, I do.
SP : *Waiting for me to take out the tissue paper from bag*
SP : Cat?
Me : Ha?!
SP : Tissue paper?
Me : *Surprised* Oh!! Sorry... *Hand the tissue*

.............................................................

Oh yeah, I am going to watch Kings of Convenience. Mind you!

Syndrome and A Century

Very inspired to do this post as I know if I do not, I will not be able to trace my very first thoughts about this movie. I can be forgetful but I guess this is one of the movies that I do not wanna forget.

I consider myself as an Annexe Gallery frequent visitor and I am always up for the movies that they select every first Monday of the month. The movies were selected by local professionals in the film making industry. Always more than excited to watch them. As you know, good movies are not always shown in cinema and most importantly, not many people are into movies which they think they will doze from the start till the end; ignoring the essence of the movie.

There I was with @DanMaverick to watch this movie "Syndrome and a Century". Luckily he was free then =P

The movie was selected by Tan Chui Mui, a Malaysian filmmaker.

We went around the gallery to have a look of the pictures and displays with the title of Kuala Lumpur Dreaming.

Jerome and Tan Chui Mui

What I saw from the movie:-

1. Shift of the mode of interaction: causes
a) modern architectural design
b) medical procedure that lacks human touch
c) other forms of cultural influences mainly the west
d) change of the available venues for businesses and interactions
e) the way people resolve their unfavorable emotions

2. Appreciation for the nature - which is apparently less in the modern scene in the movie. People no longer go deep into the jungle to search for Orchid; for health reasons or entertaining elements, we engage in physical exercise in the man made park.

I can't really elaborate much if you have not seen the film. Every scene of the movie, though their linkages are not clear, I believed they have their own interpretation and thus representation.

By the end of movie,

Chui Mui: Do you look at the sky sometime?

Me: *Secretly thought to myself* I look at dirty longkang more often...

Straw Attack!

I am kinda proud of the McDonald "stunt" (as Matthias previously put). Though not many turned up but the cashiers' expressions were just... took my breath away?! Was thrilled to see them all again.

We are reminded to carry our own bags to shop. We are also encouraged to bring our lunch boxes to tapau. Now, I am urging each one of you to do this with me - bringing your own eco friendly straws.

Let me tell you why:-

1. They are plastic. Should I say more?!

2. You like teh o ais limau, blended coffee, liong shui suit (iced herbal tea) and more many more cold drinks. You can't say no to this - that you love cold drinks because you are a Malaysian =D

I hope you agree with me in this - that you find it disgusting to use the plastic straw to suck up your drink because you know the machas' hands aren't really clean. *They hold the tip of the straw which is also the same place where you place your mouth and tongue*

3. When you order some drinks without ice like bali panas (Hot Barley), they will still stick a plastic straw in your drink despite the fact that they know it is hot. Try to imagine the possible leaching of chemicals into your beverage.

4. Straws are not reusable and even if they do, I don't think you like the idea...

5. Stop the habit of you biting the straws... *_*

***************************************************************

I was googling "Eco Friendly Straws" and I found 2 types:-

1. Stainless Steel Straws - Real Green Goods

2. Glass Straws - Glass Dharma

I try to search online but I can't find any local stores that sell any of them. Tell me if you know any and tell me also if you wanna purchase one with me =)

I particularly like this design. The coloured dots have their function - to stop your straws from rolling down the table!

Green mind + Green Act = A better living world!
